After I qualified as an accountant in August 2001 I was looking to move jobs and contacted a host of recruitment consultants in Cambridgeshire. Whilst all were enthusiastic and keen, there was only one consultant couple that met my criteria.

The biggest problem with recruitment consultants is that they tend not to listen. Whilst I didn't always know exactly what I wanted from my next role I knew roughly what radius from my home I would consider and what my salary expectations were, considering my qualifications and experience.

Large and small consultant firms ran around trying to place me in only the jobs that they had on their books, without cross referencing the role to the criteria that I had taken the time to give. Both Catherine and Richard Smith never wasted my time by offering roles that were too far away, the wrong salary range or simply the wrong level. If I was ever unable to talk it was never a problem, whereas other firms I could mention would ramble on regardless.

Some consultants would change the contact I was dealing with several times, which made me go through the entire process all over again, only for my instructions to be overlooked again. I soon became disheartened and frustrated. However, I then had the good fortune to meet Catherine Smith who not only listened to my requests but worked hard to fulfil them.

I found her approach not only professional but caring. Had I found a recruitment consultant that actually wanted her clients to find their dream job? My time was never wasted and I've been placed in several successful roles that were right for both the employer and myself. Over the last 5 years I've seen both Catherine and Richard work hard to develop relationships with corporate and individual clients and I simply refuse to use anyone else.
